Now in our 20th year, Life Without Barriers has supported thousands of people to live the best life possible and we are proud to champion opportunity for all.

We are a not-for-profit organisation working in more than 250 communities across Australia and New Zealand to support more than 5,500 people to live their best life possible.

Today, we are one of the largest providers of social services in Australia.

We are people people, and this is reflected in the services we provide and the relationships we develop. We work with individuals, their carers and others in the community to ensure the best care and support is developed for each individual’s needs. This includes working in partnership with the community, elders, government and private sector to improve the lives of the people we support.

What We Do

Our services include:

  • caring for children, young people and families
  • supporting people with disability
  • caring for older Australians
  • supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
  • caring for people with mental health issues
  • helping the homeless
  • supporting refugees and asylum seekers.

We believe in the rights of people and the importance of relationships. These foundations shape our unique approach to care and underpin the values of Life Without Barriers.

Our Purpose

We are working in an environment where the average Australian is older, a quarter of the population has experienced mental illness, one fifth live with a disability, and the demand for intervention to support children and young people rises by five percent each year. It is for reasons such as these that Life Without Barriers has continued to grow and expand its number and range of services over the past 20 years.

Increasing choice and control is a key initiative in the sector now, and people rightly have an expectation of increased responsiveness, higher quality services and greater value for money. Our focus on imaginative, innovative and responsive service solutions, has helped to develop an organisational culture which can easily meet and anticipate change, and ensure clients’ expectations are realised at an individual level by our passionate and creative staff.

We are an innovative organisation, with a reputation for supporting clients with complex needs and delivering in challenging and new environments. Our actions are underpinned by our values. Each day our frontline staff deliver our mission – championing opportunity for all.

Our services have quality practice frameworks which underpin the way our staff work with clients. We bring a team of people with experience and understanding of the challenges associated with community sector service delivery. Our services are supported by strong corporate systems and we are located all over Australia and New Zealand with facilities and infrastructure in place. Collaboration and relationships are central to the success of LWB.

We have excellent networks with government, research organisations and other not-for-profit organisations, community connections and partnerships with the corporate world. Our transparent governance arrangements ensure we are responsible and do what we say we will. We bring respect of and sensitivity to cultural, linguistic and religious diversity through our Reconciliation Action Plan and Cultural Respect Framework.

The intention of our work is to assist clients to become the master of their own circumstances; to live life to the full and restore their ability to choose what is right for them.
